The Economics of Biodiversity: Implications for policy and practice
Join Misum, the Beijer Institute and the British Embassy in Stockholm for a high-level event on The Economics of Biodiversity: "The Dasgupta Review" at the Stockholm School of Economics. The lead author of the influential Dasgupta Review, Professor Partha Dasgupta will join us to discuss progress on integrating biodiversity into economics.
In February 2021, the UK HM Treasury released the Independent Review on the Economics of Biodiversity led by Professor Sir Partha Dasgupta (The Economics of Biodiversity: The Dasgupta Review). The influential report presents a comprehensive economic framework for biodiversity. It calls for changes in how we think, act and measure economic success to protect and enhance our prosperity and the natural world, focusing on action needed across three areas:
Two years after the publication of the Dasgupta Review, the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum) welcomes Professor Partha Dasgupta from the University of Cambridge, the report lead, for an in-person seminar at the Stockholm School of Economics. Prof. Dasgupta will discuss key findings from the report as well as current progress on integrating biodiversity in economic, financial, and education systems in Sweden and internationally.
A panel discussion moderated by Dr Mia Horn af Rantzien will follow with speakers from academia, the finance sector, and Swedish policymaking. The conversations will link to recent international discussions on biodiversity, particularly the adoption of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) at the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15).
