Prestigious EU grant for Johan Rockström

An ambitious research project to achieve a better understanding of our geological epoch, the Anthropocene, has received a large grant from the European Research Council (ERC). The project is headed by Johan Rockström of the Stockholm Resilience Centre.

Now that humankind has become the dominant force changing the Earth and we are in the Anthropocene epoch, new interdisciplinary initiatives are needed to understand what is happening. This is the objective of the ‘Earth Resilience in the Anthropocene’ project for which Johan Rockström, in very stiff competition, has received funding.

The ERC Advanced Grant is the most prestigious award from the Council, going only to Europe’s most experienced researchers on an extremely competitive basis. The project will also introduce non-linear thinking and socio-ecological tipping points into futures studies, to identify possible routes towards greater resilience.
