Webcast on research communication from the Science Festival

The seminar about research communication held during the Science Festival in Gothenburg may now be viewed. Topics discussed on the day included how to build confidence in science and what researchers wanting to post films on YouTube should bear in mind.

The Forum for Research Communication at the Science Festival in mid-April had the theme of ‘London Calling’. Several experts from the UK offered examples and lessons from their work on collaboration between researchers, the media and politicians. Fiona Fox, Chief Executive of the Science Media Centre, related how they are working to enhance public confidence in science by getting researchers involved, and contributing their knowledge, in topical and sometimes controversial scientific issues in the flow of news.

The well-attended day that Mistra joined in arranging was filmed, and this film may now be viewed on the Science Festival website. There, visitors can also listen to, for example, the Minister for Higher Education and Research Helene Hellmark Knutsson. Another speaker worth watching is Gail Cardew of the Royal Institution, who gave an account of the potential for using film to communicate research on YouTube, for example.
