New Mistra board

Selection of Mistra’s new Board was completed on 10 June. Lena Treschow Torell was reappointed as Chair of a ten-member Board. The new members start work on 1 July 2013 and will hold office for three years.

The Swedish Government previously appointed Lena Treschow Torell and Klas Eklund. The departing Board proposed that Mathilda Tham should remain as a sitting member. The Board now comprises:

  • Lena Treschow Torell, Chair
  • Klas Eklund, Senior Economist at SE-Banken (new member)
  • Mathilda Tham, Beckmans College of Design
  • Elisabet Salander Björklund, Bergvik Skog AB
  • Bengt Söderström, Lund University
  • Kerstin Johannesson, University of Gothenburg (new member)
  • Kyösti Tuutti, Lund University, Skanska AB (new member)
  • Margareta Törnqvist, Stockholm University (new member)
  • Anna Ledin, Swedish Research Council Formas, Lund University (new member)
  • Sverker Sörlin, KTH Royal Institute of Technology (new member)

Mistra’s new Board has been appointed according to a procedure adopted by the Swedish Government in 2010. The Board is to comprise ten members, two of whom are government appointees. Two members are appointed according to proposals from the coordination group for the Swedish Research Council, the Swedish Research Council for Environment, Agricultural Sciences and Spatial Planning (Formas) and the Swedish Governmental Agency for Innovation Systems (VINNOVA).

Higher education institutions nominate a further two members through the Association of Swedish Higher Education (SUHF) and three more are proposed by the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, the Royal Swedish Academy of Agriculture and Forestry and the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences. The last member is nominated by the Board itself. The sitting Board’s resolutions on members take place at its last meeting during their current term of office.
